This autumn we have been using pumpkins in our play and learning.
The children have been developing their fine motor skills by using hammers to hit golf tees into the pumpkins. This has been a tricky challenge, for some, but they have shown great persistence and determination.
We have also used knifes to cut the pumpkins up and spoons to scoop out the seeds from inside. We hope to plant the seeds and grow our own pumpkins ready for next autumn – fingers crossed!
And of course we couldn’t resist tasting the pumpkins. We roasted them in the oven and did a taste test. It was a thumbs up from many of the children. Maybe you could have a go at roasting pumpkin at home for a delicious snack or even making pumpkin soup as an autumn treat.
