We had a special delivery this week at nursery and it was very exciting. We got some eggs!
The eggs brought up a lot of discussion once the children knew that they would get the opportunity to watch them grow into chicks. The children developed a set of rules to care for chicks; discussed cooking different types of eggs; enjoyed drawing chicks and eggs; observed the changes in the eggs. (such as which ones have cracked and which ones hadn't) and liked counting the eggs, counting how many had cracked. Here are some pictures of the progression through the 2 Weeks!
We are very interested in the life cycle of the chicks, and can't wait to see what happens and what is different on our return from the weekend!
We even used the chicks as inspiration for our paintings and drawings. We had the opportunity to do life drawings of the chicks. Where we particularly enjoyed looking at all the different parts of a chick in detail. Have a look at what we saw!
Having chicks at our nursery was such a fun experience, we got to learn how to handle live animals and understand why it is important to care for living things. Most importantly we had a hands on experience of the beginning of a life cycle!
